Jan 16, 2023 | Dressings, Drinks, Healthy Ingredients, Olive Oil, Salad, Tea

Happy New Year!  We’re off to a great start for 2023 here at the Paducah Olive Oil Co.

We had such a busy Christmas season and want to thank each of you for shopping with us.  We hope it has been a good season for you and look forward to seeing you this year!

We have a few new items to talk about!  First up, we have a new olive oil flavor – Gochujang – it has a distinctive chili flavor which the oil smooths out.  It’s a nice complement to the tropical balsamic flavors we have on hand.

There are also two new varieties of Fire Cider which is very popular with lots of our customers.  We’re so glad to be able to offer this natural wellness product again.  Elderberry/raspberry throat lozenges have joined the line-up along with DIY Elderberry Syrup Kits and Elderberry Gummies to help keep you healthy.

There are also new kinds of Seattle chocolate bars!  Flavors like Mexican hot chocolate, Hot buttered Rum, Toffee Sea Salt, and Candy Cane Crunch.  Yummy!  If you haven’t tried the caramels yet, you are in for a treat with them as well.

New locally made jellies from Fired Up jellies in several flavors are a new item and the ever-popular Kennemeade sorghum is back.  We are also fully stocked on Vanilla Bean Paste in 2 sizes.

Detoxing Ideas

During this time of year, everyone’s thoughts turn to starting a healthier lifestyle so we have a few detoxing ideas to share.

A few quick detoxing tea ideas:

Honey Lemon Ginger root tea

  • ½ lemon
  • 1 TBS honey
  • ½ ginger root
  • 1 glass warm water

Heat a glass of water – do not boil it.  Use a mortar and pestle to crush the ginger root.  Add the lemon juice, crushed ginger, and honey to a glass of warm water and drink while still warm.

Drinking this mixture first thing in the morning will help detox the body.  It helps boost metabolism and may help suppress appetite and aid weight loss.

Lemon and cucumber detox water

  • 1 lemon
  • 1 cucumber
  • Mint leaves
  • Pinch of salt
  • Water

Cut the lemon in wedges and slice the cucumber.  Toss all pieces in a jar.  Add a few mint leaves and salt.  Pour water in the jar.  Drink this water throughout the day.

This is a common DIY cleansing drink to boost energy and metabolism.

Pineapple Lemonade

  • 1 cup chopped pineapple
  • Juice of one lemon
  • 1 tsp maple syrup
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • Pinch salt

Toss the chopped pineapple in a blender and spin.  Pour the juice in a glass.  Add the rest of the ingredients.  Pineapple contains an enzyme called bromelain, which helps in metabolizing protein, which may help in burning excess belly fat.  It’s also a good source of fiber.

We also came up with a few ideas for using Stevia drops (which are available in several flavors!)

SALAD DRESSING

  • 1/3 CUP OLIVE OIL
  • 2 TBSP. APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
  • 4 DROPS LIQUID STEVIA
  • ½ TSP LIQUID AMINOS
  • 1 TSP GROUND FLAX SEED
  • PINCH SALT
  • ¼ TSP BLACK PEPPER
  • ¼ TSP. RED PEPPER
  • ½ CLOVE GARLIC.

Chop garlic glove finely and mix all ingredients together.  Whisk well and pour over salad.  Great with spring greens!

FAT BURNING ICE CREAM

  • 4 servings
  • 1 banana (frozen)
  • ½ avocado removed from skin and frozen
  • ¼ tsp. cinnamon
  • 5 raw almonds
  • 1 Tbsp flax seeds
  • Liquid stevia (enough for desired sweetness)

Place all ingredients in blender and puree.  Eat immediately!

Maybe some of these ideas will give you something to think about!  Come in and see us and share your ideas with us.  We love new recipes!
